Bahrain Business Machines (BBM), the sole distributor for IBM Products and services in Bahrain, has implemented an information technology (IT) infrastructure for the Economic Development Board (EDB), the Kingdom of Bahrain's inward investment vehicle, to facilitate direct foreign investment into the country.

EDB is the first organization in Bahrain, and the first of its kind in the region, to receive this turnkey solution, which includes IBM hardware, various software applications and wireless connectivity from IBM business partner Cisco Systems.

One of EDB's primary requirements was the creation of an infrastructure to facilitate the flow of information, allowing investors access to knowledge that would help them make informed choices about investing in Bahrain. Lotus Notes was chosen to address this requirement, transforming EDB to function as an investor information center by providing a complete document management system and a collaborative working environment between local partners, international investors and EDB's staff.

BBM also installed a virtual private network (VPN) from Cisco's VPN 3000 Concentrator Series to provide global access to EDB's network and branches. The VPN incorporates advanced high availability remote access applications and is completely scalable to allow EDB to add capacity and throughput, future-proofing its investment in the long-term. — (menareport.com)
