Jordan's Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) today formally issued an 'individual licence' to Batelco Jordan.   During the licence signing ceremony held at the TRC offices in Amman, officials also highlighted that Batelco Jordan was the first 'unified regime' individual licensee in Jordan's history.

In commenting on the provision of the licence, Her Excellency Muna Nijem, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners/CEO of Jordan's TRC said, "Consumers across Jordan, and the Middle East, will soon see the benefits that competition can bring to the communications market through cost efficient, state of the art technologies and infrastructure.   Jordan, in being the first in the Middle East to fully liberalise telecommunications services, is leading the sector and we fully expect the results of the investments to show in our country's economic standing and progress into the 21st century."

"Batelco Jordan secured the licence by fully complying with the TRC's requirements and on the back of its comprehensive technical plans, its cutting edge expertise and because it convinced the TRC of its serious commitment to developing communications in Jordan." continued Nejm.

With this full liberalization of the Jordanian telecom market, Batelco Jordan is now poised to become the 21st century cutting edge telecommunications provider, capitalizing on the latest technological developments by building a state of the art infrastructure, integrating voice, video, and data as part of its packaging, and providing a host of new and exciting, valuable products and services.

Marwan Juma, Chief Executive Officer for Batelco Jordan said: 'Securing the second fixed line licence under the 'unified regime' after the liberalisation of the fixed market is a resounding endorsement of our vision for extending communications across Jordan. We are highly dedicated to the Jordanian market and we have a list of successes to date; however  this licence will make a real difference in what we can offer the consumer."

"With the technologies and services Batelco Jordan aims to provide consumers with high quality, cost efficient valuable services and we will, through SMART technologies, be taking Jordan forward in huge leaps into the wider world of communications." continued Juma.  'It is our firm belief that the people of Jordan will welcome the element of choice and the contribution by Batelco Jordan not only by improving communications in the country but also to the economy and to the employment opportunities available. We currently employ some 100 Jordanians and see this growing expotentially year on year as our investment levels increase.   Our commitment to training and employment of the bright young people of Jordan will be exceedingly high."
