The Bahrain Telecommunication Company (Batelco) celebrated this week the connection of its 300,000th mobile line connection. Batelco has witnessed significant growth in mobile telecommunications since the introduction of the service in 1995.
Launched in 1995, the number of customers has increased ten-fold from the first year to 300,00 MobilePlus customers today, or approximately 46 percent of Bahrain’s population, according to a company press release.
Since the beginning of the New Year, MobilePlus Tariff reductions were implemented on registration, monthly rental, per minute charges, as well as Mobile VoiceMail and SMS charges.
More recently, Batelco’s Roaming list has expanded to cover 79 countries worldwide. Syria and Yemen are the latest destinations with whom the company has signed roaming agreements in the Middle East. Batelco has also recently signed roaming agreements with Peru and Argentina.
In the near future, Batelco plans to introduce a service called Thunaii, which will allow customers to have two mobile phones (SIM cards) with the same number. — (menareport.com)
