ALBAWABA - Baidu, the Chinese multinational technology company specializing in internet services and artificial intelligence, released a new reasoning artificial intelligence (AI) model, aiming to compete with DeepSeek.
Baidu competes with DeepSeek through Ernie X1
Another company has recently joined the DeepSeek competition, as the Chinese tech giant Baidu released a new reasoning artificial intelligence (AI) model.
The company announced the launch of Ernie 4.5 & X1, a deep-thinking reasoning model with multimodal capabilities, as quoted by Baidu. Baidu stated that Ernie X1 delivers the same artificial intelligence (AI) performance and capabilities as DeepSeek R1, but at half the price.
Baidu also added that its new model will surpass DeepSeek in performance regarding daily dialogues, complex calculations, and logical deduction. Additionally, Baidu stated that the updated Ernie 4.5 will outperform OpenAI’s ChatGPT in text generation.

Notably, Baidu was the first Chinese tech company to launch an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, shortly after OpenAI. However, ByteDance, Moonshot, Qwen, and DeepSeek have since gained more popularity.
As Baidu strongly competes with DeepSeek, the company announced that its Ernie AI models will be available as open source around June 2025. Additionally, the company has integrated its R1 model into its search engine.
