Arad residents are angry after greenbelt area in Muharraq was directed for a new government housing project. Under law, greenbelt areas are protected and can only be used for planting. However, an area has already been purchased for the project, which is set to start by the end of 2006, the GDN has reported.
The greenbelt area used to measure two million square metres, but two thirds of this is already dead, according to Muharraq Municipal Council technical affairs committee chairman, Ali Al Muqla.
