The prime minister of Bahrain, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, has issued a decree for the forming of a committee that will introduce rules and guidelines for the regulation of e-commerce activity in the country.
To underscore the importance that the government of Bahrain is affording the committee, it was decided that the committee would be headed by Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, the Bahraini crown prince and the commander-in-chief of the country’s defense forces.
According to the prime minister’s decree, the new committee will be responsible for setting priorities in national electronic trade. It is also charged with preparing the necessary legislative processes, as well as introducing amendments to existing laws.
The committee is also required to study technological issues and to propose ways in which the leading suppliers of technologies could be encouraged to choose Bahrain as a dominant e-commerce center.
The committee will also create a permanent liaison committee with participants from various ministries and official agencies, so that information about the latest developments would be disseminated though government bodies and to ensure proper coordination.
The members of the committee include Transport Minister Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa, Information Minister Mohammed Al-Mutawa, Commerce Minister Ali Saleh Al-Saleh, Finance Minister Abdullah Saif, Rashed Al-Miraj and Jamal Al-Hazeem. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
