The Bahraini government has temporarily halted work on a housing project in Salmabad after months of protests by land owners who argue that the compensation it offered was not enough. According to the GDN, Bahrain's Municipalities and Agriculture Minister Ali Saleh Al Saleh ordered the work to be halted on the land following a meeting with the landowners, said Central Area municipal councillor Sayed Abdulla Al A'ali.

The government had earlier this year offered the landowners BD4 per foot for the land, which they claim is worth BD13.
