Some 80 families living in dilapidated government flats in the old Muharraq Suq area are refusing to move to make way for a BD16 million housing plan, the GDN has reported. They claim they will stay in their 30-year-old homes unless they are moved to decent alternatives.

The new project will be set up on an area of 3.9 hectares and will have 15 buildings, which will include 300 flats. Work is set to start in the first half of 2007 and end in the first half of 2009.
