averda, a leading regional environmental services company, announced that it has acquired New Wave Cleaning Services (NWCS), a provider of reliable, high-quality professional waste management services based in Qatar. Company officials have revealed that the acquisition is part of an expansion plan that targets the local demand for reliable waste management services, which the company expects to rise amidst projections of a 35.5 per cent economic growth in 2010.

Qatar is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with the government investing billions on infrastructure projects. It is also home to a number of luxury hotels, which require and utilize the best waste management services available. averda’s presence in Qatar through NWCS will provide the company with a strong foothold in the local market, making it easier to connect with potential clients for its residential, commercial and specialty waste management services.

“Demand for waste management services and products have been affected by the recession, but are now showing signs of recovery. The global waste management sector is currently in excess of USD 20 billion, and should start growing again in 2010,” said Malek Sukkar, CEO, averda. “Our acquisition of NWCS, which follows strategic investments into two other leading regional companies – Al Ghadeer Waste Collections Company in the UAE and Technique Waste Management in Oman – is part of our strategic plan to expand across the whole GCC to fulfill the market demand for professional waste management solutions.”

Established in 2006, NWCS is based in Doha and offers commercial, residential and waste management services. Following averda’s acquisition, plans have been put in place for the company to expand its range of services to include hazardous and medical waste treatment and disposal, and liquid waste management, among others.

Speaking on behalf of NWCS is Managing Director Niall Mara, who commented, “We are looking forward to adopting averda’s methods to introduce improvements to our own operations. We are also keen on leveraging averda’s advanced technological resources to further enhance the services we provide to our existing base of customers, which range from residential compounds to construction project sites. Our commitment to serving the community drives us to constantly strive to improve our practices and minimise the environmental impact of our services, which is a philosophy that NWCS and averda share.”
