Far-right Austrian politician Joerg Haider arrived in Kuwait Saturday, November 10 on a three-day private visit at the invitation of Kuwaiti MP Jamal Al-Omar.
Haider, known for his anti-immigrant views and notorious for his past comments sympathetic to Nazi Germany, will hold informal meetings with senior government officials and tour various Kuwaiti sites, a parliamentary source told AFP.
The source said Haider will hold unofficial meetings with Kuwaiti Finance Minister Yousef Al-Ibrahim, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Sabah, and Minister of State for Cabinet and National Assembly Affairs Mohammad Sharar.
In addition, Haider will tour Kuwaiti diwaniyas (meeting places), including those of parliament Speaker Jassim Al-Khorafi and Deputy Speaker Mishari Al-Anjari. He arrived in Kuwait from Damascus and will travel from here to Tehran, the source said.
Haider, former leader of the Freedom Party, is governor of Austria's southern Carinthia province— (AFP, Kuwait City)
