Following the recent announcement by the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq that Atheer Telecommunications had won the license to provide a mobile telecom network in the Southern region of Iraq, Atheer Telecommunications outlined more details about their plans.
Whilst Atheer Telecommunications is to be operated and managed by Kuwait’s MTC, the key investments are split evenly on a 50:50 ratio between Iraqi investors and Kuwait investors.
The Iraqi investment will come via a new company, Digla Telecommunications Company (DTC), a consortium of Iraqi businessmen set up following the war on Iraq. The MTC Group of Companies together with a Kuwaiti company, Kharafi National, make up the remaining 50 percent of the partnership.
MTC's GSM service has been live since May with base stations positioned to ensure provision for the security forces and supporting those working hard on delivering humanitarian aid into the cities of Baghdad and Basra. This service was provided under granted authority by the Joint Communications Authority Board Iraq and the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom (MoD). — (menareport.com)
