ALBAWABA - A multitude of Facebook and Instagram users encountered technical issues on March 5, 2024, which hindered their ability to access their accounts or register in. The extensive disruption has generated user frustration, prompting them to seek clarification on social media platforms including X.

Reports say that Instagram users are having frequent problems getting the app and refreshing their accounts. Likewise, Facebook users have been confronted with challenges including login malfunctions and unanticipated errors.

Andy Stone, a representative of Facebook, confirmed the user-facing concerns and guaranteed that the team is conscientiously addressing them through Twitter, thus breaching the organization's embargo.

But what raises bigger concern are the reports of social media activists regarding what they describe as "damage" to the internet cables in the Red Sea, which connect the internet between the continents of Asia and Europe, amid the Houthi attacks on ships and their official warnings about the possibility of targeting internet cables in the Red Sea.

Numerous social media activists are of the opinion that this is no accident, but rather deliberate Houthi attacks to exert pressure for a humanitarian armistice amid the genocide in Gaza. Furthermore, information regarding the impairment of three internet cables in the Red Sea has proliferated from unidentified sources.

In addition, a concern has been raised on Google's Ads status page regarding its Ads Manager, and users have reported a variety of distinct issues on platforms including X and Microsoft Teams.

Despite the absence of specific details, the predominant factor causing these disruptions seems to be a widespread breakdown in the internet infrastructure. Repair efforts have been hindered by logistical challenges, exacerbated by the engineers of Meta's inability to remotely access the servers, which further complicates the resolution process.
