The Arab Satellite Communications Organisation (Arabsat) plans to launch two new satellites in 2005 and 2006, expanding the company’s reach to Central Europe and South Africa. The cost of the upgrade is expected to reach $305 million
According to Gulf News, the contracts have been awarded to European providers, however company name were not released. These satellites will provide both digital and analogue services.
Established in 1976, Arabsat was founded by the member states of the Arab League with a goal to serve the needs of the telecommunication, information, culture and education sectors. The company owns and operates four satellites and two control stations located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Tunis, Tunisia. — (menareport.com)
