A recently published economic report by the Secretary General of the Arab Economic Unity Council, Ahmed Jweily shows that exports from Arab countries hit $343 billion in 2000, reported Al-Hayat . This export value amounted to only 3.8 percent of the world’s total exports in the same year, which amounted to $6,650 billion. Oil constituted 68 percent of the Arab World’s total exports.
Arab imports hit $154.9 billion in 2000. This value amounted to only 2.3 percent of the world’s total imports in the same year, which hit $6,551 billion. The report also reveals that more than half of the Arab imports arrived from Europe and America. — (menareport.com)
