ALBAWABA - Apple Inc, the American multinational corporation and technology company, announced modifying its App Store fees. These changes came after the European Union warned the company about potential violations of the new digital rules set by the union.

European Union warns Apple Inc

The European Union said that the virtual store owned by Apple prevented app developers from freely directing their consumers to alternative payment methods, making Apple the first tech company to face charges of violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA), an EU regulation that aims to make the digital economy fairer and more contestable.

Commenting on the accused charges, Apple said it will make the necessary changes to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) law to be able to meet the requirements of the European Commission, the primary executive arm of the European Union.

Apple new regulations

It is important to note that Apple imposed several restrictions on developers that prevented them from communicating, promoting offers, and concluding contracts.

On the other hand, Apple said on Thursday that developers in the European Union will be able to communicate and promote offers for purchase after the company changes the regulations it previously implemented, starting next fall 2024.

The Digital Markets Act (DMA) law provides big tech companies with a list of actions they can/cannot perform and aims to increase competition in the digital space. Apple could face daily penalty charges of up to 5% of its average daily global sales if it does not comply with the DMA law.
