A more affordable, lower-spec version of Apple’s Vision Pro might be in development with a drop of iconic features found in the original headset.

ALBWABA – As Apple’s Vision Pro moves to more adaptation in global markets, and while it is not expected to see a version 2 of the headset anytime before 2025 or 2026, a report from Tom’s Guide has shed some light on the tech giant’s plans to release a more affordable entry-level model of the headset with some cutbacks.

Citing the Korean media specializing in electronics and semiconductor tech, The Elec, leaker Revegnus posted on X (formerly twitter) that Apple is ramping up production for its more budget friendly spatial computing headset, with up to $2000 cut from the original bill of the Vision Pro, targeting a price point of $1500.

The main downgrade expected appears to come from the Vision Pro’s most pricy feature, its dual 4K Micro-LED displays, which CNBC reports it costs about a third of the Vision Pro materials bill, with Apple researching ways to lower that cost by up to 50 percent.

The Elec’s report points to Apple’s looking at suppliers like SeeYa and BOE to secure their supply chain and support their current source of Micro-LED displays, Sony, which Tom’s Guide writes might be pushing at full capacity to fulfil Apple’s demand, however, it adds that Apple’s quality criteria might not be met with these manufacturers.

An earlier report from Bloomberg back in Oct. 2023 has also noted that Apple is considering a more affordable headset release, possibly titled ‘Vision Pro SE’, with spec downgrades touching the displays, cameras and an iPhone-grade A chip instead of the M line-up seen on Mac devices, Bloomberg also adds a potential drop of the iconic “Eyesight” feature, which shows the user’s eyes on the outer shell of the Vision Pro.
