The employment of women in the oil and gas industry was the theme of an international conference held recently in Algiers, organized by Algerian oil company Sonatrach's employment of women watchdog. Inaugurating the meeting, held on the sidelines of the second energy week in Algeria, Sonatrach's Chief Executive Officer underscored that it is the prefect opportunity "to get the best from the experience in the oil and gas field."
Mohamed Meziane said that "a lot has been done to give equal chances to both Sonatrach's women and men in terms of career advancement."
"The salary in any job position, whether of responsibility or not, and the advantages it provides are the same whether the position is held by a woman or a man," he said, adding that the number of women holding positions of technical and managerial responsibility is growing, APS reported.
Figures disclosed in the event indicated that employment of women in Sonatrach represented some 10.6% of total jobs in the past five year, with 3% of senior executives and 38% of executives. Some 39% of women work at Sonatrach's seat and operating structures, much less in the upstream and downstream. (meanreport.com)
