The Algerian government's commitment to build 1 million housing units between 2004 and 2009 was reiterated earlier this week by Housing Minister, Mohamed Nadir Hamimid.
According to him, all the financial and technical means will be mobilised for the materialisation of this project which should cost to the State a financial envelope of AD100 billion/year.
In response to questions relating to the State's capacity to carry out such this project, the Minister commented "we have to be present at this rendezvous (...) because we have the required lands situated in the cities and their peripheries and we must find a skilled workforce that is able to carry out this project."
"We won't ignore the foreign bids, the Minister went on, "it is true that the public market law grants priority to the public and private national tenders, especially that their prices do not exceed those of the foreign ones."
In the same context, Housing Minister recalled that the Turkish workforce succeeded in taking down a project for the construction of 2000 housing units after submitting a bid which cost does not exceed AD18000/square meter.
As regard the housing units which completion is planned for 2004-2005, Hamimid stressed that "336 000 units are underway over the national territory."
Concerning the 65,000 housing units project under the hire-purchase form, the Minister concluded "it will be financed by the National Savings and Provident Bank (CNEP), the construction of 10 000 units, which will be financed by CNEP, is due to begin soon." (menareport.com)
