ALGIERS, July 12 (AFP) - Algeria will support any decision by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase oil production, Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil said Wednesday.
"If there is a consensus on an increase in production by the OPEC countries, Algeria will support this decision," Khelil said.
"Algeria favors all decisions within OPEC to be taken by consensus and after consultation," he said.
Algeria could raise by 15,000 barrels per day (bpd) its production quota of about 811,000 bpd, if an output increase were agreed by the 11-nation group, an Algerian oil expert told the state news agency APS.
Khelil recalled that Algeria was steadfastly in favor of price stability at around 25 dollars a barrel and "above all discipline and cohesion among the oil-producing countries."
