Financial needs for implementation of rural development projects included in the National Plan for Agricultural and Rural Development (PNDAR) for 2005/2009 are assessed at about $ 3 billion per year, the Algerian Minister in charge of Rural Development, Rachid Benaissa, said Monday. According to APS, this five-year plan, which aims at the rural populations having never been integrated in the previous state programs, provides for the development of 9,124 projects concerning 1,300 rural municipalities, the minister added.
PNDAR was set up in 2000 with the aim to provide durable improvement in the country’s food safety, increased competitiveness for agriculture, and progressive integration into the world economy.
