Shops situated along Alexandria’s boardwalks reported record sales this past July, averaging between 80 and 100 million Egyptian pounds ($18.8 to $23.5 million) daily. This is the highest sales volume that the 16,000 stores located on Alexandria’s 20- kilometer long boardwalk have recorded in years, according to Al-Gumhuria daily.

The coasts of Alexandria, especially its northern and Matruh region, managed to attract a growing number of tourists this summer, due in part, to the hot weather. Consequently, stores which catered to visitors, selling souvenirs and gift items along the strip, fared particularly well throughout the hot season. — (Mena Report)
