French telecom major Alcatel has won two contracts in Oman and Yemen to provide digital subscriber line services, officials said.
In Oman, Alcatel signed a contract with Omantel to supply digital subscriber line (DSL) solutions, enabling Omantel to offer advanced broadband services to its residential users and enterprise customers.
"This contract further confirms our commitment to help accelerate broadband deployments in emerging broadband markets in the world.
"We consider Omantel a key customer in the region will work closely to build its national DSL network," said Michel Rahier, Alcatel's chief operating officer for its fixed communications group.
Omantel and Alcatel have been close partners for several years, working together on many of the existing networks in Oman, officials said.
In the meantime, Yemen Telecom selected Alcatel to supply equipment for a DSL network delivering high-speed services across the country, officials said.
Under the multi-million dollar contract, Alcatel will provide DSL lines over a period of three years to Yemen Telecom to support its nationwide broadband deployment.
In Yemen, Alcatel will be the first company supplying a DSL solution for the market, officials said. The introduction of broadband will help expand the local economy and create an entirely different telecom experience for the people of Yemen, said Kamal Al Jebry, director-general of Yemen Telecom.
