The Turkish Ministry of Finance has awarded Alcatel with a contract for the supply and the installation of a countrywide data communications infrastructure for its ‘Say2000’ project — a web-based public accounting automation project.
The project aims at managing on a daily basis the tracing and the transfer of public accounts between 1600 ministerial offices in the country as well as compiling the records of the accounts in a central database in Ankara, Turkey. Alcatel will complete the project by the first quarter of 2001. The contract valued $4.5 million, according to a company press release.
’Say2000’ will operate over the TTnet national Internet infrastructure of Turk Telekom, which has been also supplied by Alcatel. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) will be built on TTnet to create a cost-effective private Intranet for the ministry and to also provide Internet access to central units and public accounting offices.
Alcatel will provide an end-to-end data communications solution featuring a network management center located in Ankara. Alcatel will install its routers, Omnicore switches, HDSL (High-speed Digital Subscriber Line) modems and dial-up access servers, as well as its AAA (Accounting Authorization and Authentication) server. They will be connected to the TTnet network through leased lines, frame relays and dial-up access. A call center will also be installed at the Ministry's central office in Ankara. VoIP (Voice over IP) technology will be used to handle voice traffic between the public accounting offices.
Alcatel builds networks delivering integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide. With 120,000 employees and sales of EURO 23 billion in 1999, Alcatel operates in more than 130 countries. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
