Alba’s Line 5 Project surpassed the 17 million man-hour safety milestone with only two Lost Time Incidents, a commendable achievement for a project of such magnitude. The Line 5 Project Team congratulated their workforce for this achievement and presented their 7,200 on-site employees with a commemorative gift.
With nearly 70% of construction completed and at a Lost Time Incident Frequency Rate (LTIFR) of 0.12, the Line 5 Project Team can rightfully claim to have implemented some of the most effective safety regulations and procedures on the construction site and to have successfully trained and educated its workforce to work safely and to view safety as a ‘state of mind’.
Taking into consideration that Bechtel’s global LTIFR average is 0.8 (0.8 lost time incidents per 1 million man-hours) and that the American construction industry’s LTIFR average is 20 (20 lost time incidents per 1 million man-hours), the Line 5 Project, with a LTIFR of 0.12, can be rated as one of the safest projects in the global construction industry. The LTIFR measures and assesses the safety performance of global construction projects by calculating the frequency of Lost Time Incidents for every 1 million man-hours of construction work.
