The Dubai-based Al-Rawabi Dairy Company recently launched a 35 million Emirati dirham ($9.5 million) expansion project at its Al-Khawaneej Oasis plant. The initiative will increase the factory’s daily fresh milk production from 100 tons to 200 tons, reported Gulf News.
The company has raised the size of its herd to 1,600, which will increase production by 35 per cent. The additional output will be directed to the local market and to Saudi Arabia, where Al-Rawabi will be marketing a line of dairy products by early 2003.
The Al-Rawabi Dairy Company Limited produces fresh milk, yogurt, flavored milk, juices and laban. It is the largest producer of fresh milk in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a 32.3 percent share in the local market.
Both the government of Dubai and the Gulf Investment Corporation hold a 17 percent stake in the company and the Arab Authority for Agriculture Investment and Development holds a 28 percent stake in the firm. The company's products are also available in Oman and Qatar. — (menareport.com)
