The Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al-Mutaiwee, welcomed the growth of the economic relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Switzerland.
DCCI mentioned that t UAE imports from Switzerland through Dubai increased from 872 million Emirati dirhams ($237 million) in 2000 to more than five billion dirhams in 2001, which demonstrates a remarkable development in the relations. He added that watches, jewelry and accessories occupied the larger share of the imports from Switzerland, even though the imports include machinery, equipment, and chemicals, most of which are re-exported from Dubai to most countries in the region.
The Director General of DCCI recently received the Swiss Ambassador, François Barras, on the occasion of completing his term of office in the UAE and moving to Hong Kong. The Ambassador was accompanied on this visit by the Swiss Commercial Attaché in Dubai, Wafa Hajawi.
During his visit to the Chamber, the Swiss Ambassador commented about Dubai's economic direction and its future projects, as well as the stability and security the UAE enjoys despite the negative conditions suffered by a number of Middle Eastern states. He said that the investment climate in Dubai has led many international establishments to set up regional bases in Dubai where more than 100 nationalities live and work together. — (menareport.com)
