Airbus Industrie will begin delivering its A340-500 aircraft to Emirates Airlines next year following certification by the European Joint Aviation Authorities for the ultra-long-range airplane. Emirates signed a deal with Airbus for six A340-500’s in 1998 and options on a further 10 in a deal worth $2.4 billion.
The A340-500 has the performance to fly non-stop to the US. East and West coasts. Emirates' A340-500 will be powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 553 engines and will seat around 280 passengers in a first, business and economy layout.
The Emirates network covers 45 countries on four continents. The network will be further expanded next year when the airline starts services to Lagos, Moscow and Shanghai. — (menareport.com)
