The new BD2.5-million air traffic control tower at Bahrain International Airport will be officially handed over to Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) next week, an official told the GDN on Wednesday. Works and Housing Ministry strategic projects acting director Ghazi Al Saleh said "The 50-metre high tower, covering an area of 5,000 square metres, is one of the most advanced of its kind in the region."

Spread over 12 levels, the tower has a reception area and a VIP lounge as well as the main distribution room on the ground floor, added Mr Al Saleh.

Construction of the project started in June 2003 and was completed in two years.
