Sudan exported some $292.6 million worth of non-oil products in the first half of 2002. Some 40 percent of the exported goods, worth $120 million, were agricultural products, reported the Sudanese Customs Administration.
Sudan earns an average $200 million from agricultural and animal products annually. The North African state exported $87.6 million worth of livestock between January and June 2002. Other exports included $33.7 million worth of industrial products and $27.3 million worth of minerals.
The biggest investors in Sudan’s agricultural sector and buyers of its products have been the Arab states. Saudi Arabia is Sudan’s biggest trading partner and the country's greatest consumer of its livestock. The Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development, a pan-Arab body jointly owned by the Arab League has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the sector in Sudan. — (menareport.com)
