The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) has awarded a 275,000 Kuwaiti dinars ($912,060) grant to the Dubai-based International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA). The funds will be used to complete irrigation and drainage facilities at Al-Ruwaiyah.

The aid will allow ICBA to conduct research on inland water resources in the Gulf. AFSED has previously allocated the Center with one million dollars for the construction of facilities and the purchase of laboratory equipment. The second grant makes the Fund ICBA’s second largest financial supporter.

Established in 1974, AFESD is a multilateral Arab development corporation. Its membership consists of all states that are members of the Arab League. The Fund’s function is to assist the economic and social development of Arab countries through financing development projects, with preference given to overall Arab development and to joint Arab projects. — (menareport.com)
