Acer Computer (ME) Ltd. will showcase the Middle East’s first tablet PC—the Acer TravelMate C100 at GITEX 2002 exhibition—to meet growing regional demand from business and consumer users for the world’s latest mobile computing technology. The Acer TravelMate C100 is powered by Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, which will formally be launched on November 7, 2002, by Microsoft.
The Acer TravelMate C100 tablet PC, which will be professionally demonstrated for GITEX 2002 visitors to Acer’s stand, features a 180-degree revolving screen, Intel Pentium III mobile processor and wireless LAN, and comes loaded with Microsoft’s Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.
The Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition builds on the Windows XP Professional operating system by adding: an Input Panel that toggles between an on-screen keyboard and a handwriting input area; Windows Journal to work with ink; the ability to use ink in various Windows applications; and, quite futuristically, speech input.
Weighing in at less than 1.5kg, the Tablet PC features USB and FireWire connectivity for external drives.
“Middle East technology users are now more educated and demanding than ever before, and they are particularly aware of products that are being launched in other parts of the world,” said Krishna Murthy, general manager of Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.
“In response to this growing demand, Acer will introduce the region’s first tablet PC, a machine that has to be seen to be believed. With laptop functionality and stylus-handwriting speed, the TravelMate C100 tablet PC from Acer is a must-have for any technology user on the move,” added Murthy.
