The General Secretariat of the Executive Council inaugurated its George Washington University-accredited Leadership and Change Management Seminar today. Designed to give 100 emerging leaders the skills they need to lead the emirate’s restructuring, the effort marks the first time a custom-made programme has been developed for attendees from across the government.
Eleven government offices will be represented over the two-week programme, scheduled from September 2-12, 2007 at the Emirates Palace. The attendance with be from General Secretariat of the Executive Council, Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Ain Municipality, Department of Civil Service, Department of Finance, Department of Municipal Affairs, Department of Planning and Economy, Department of Transport, General Secretariat of the Executive Council, Program Management Office, Western Region Municipality.
In addition to a three-day program featuring international educators from the United States and Europe, a special session will be held on Wednesday, September 5. This will serve as a forum for delegates to hear a local perspective on leadership from Abdulla Ali Al Ahbabi, Director of Government Performance Management for the General Secretariat, and Mohammed Hamad Azzan Al Mazrouei, Director General of the Western Region Development Council.
“The success of the restructuring depends on the people entrusted with running the day-to-day affairs of government,” said Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Deputy Secretary General of the General Secretariat. “This program is the first step in a larger effort to ensure that managers have the necessary support and capability to lead an open, transparent restructuring in their offices.”
Delegates will receive a master’s credit from George Washington University, opening the door for them to pursue graduate level education. The credit can be used towards a number of post-graduate degree programs, including a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and a Master of Science in Project Management.
