In an effort to meet the growing demand for tourist accommodations in Abu Dhabi in the near future, an estimated 4,500 new hotel rooms are expected to enter the tourism industry in the emirate over the coming three years.
The new project which Abu Dhabi authorities have embarked on is expected to enhance the capacity for tourist accommodations by some 45 per cent, according to Khaleej Times. The development program will increasing the number of hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi from 10,000 to an estimated 14,000.
The move comes in the wake of a thriving tourism and occupancy trend in the emirate, which is expected to continue to grow according to recent statistics.
Several major infrastructure projects are currently being undertaken by the emirate in an attempt to respond to the needs of the hospitality sector, with occupancy rates in Abu Dhabi hotels and hotel apartments recording significant growth in recent years, reaching two million occupants in 2005.
The emirate’s hotels sector achieved a 25 per cent growth, considered one of the highest in the region. A recent report by Delloitte and Touche rated Abu Dhabi as having one of the highest rates last year, reaching an impressove 84.4 percent.
