Swiss technology group ABB is refurbishing three of Dubai Aluminium (Dubal)’s six potlines at one of the biggest aluminum smelters in the world. The upgrade will increase capacity by 30 from 536,000 tons to 710,000 tons a year
This will be the fourth time that Dubal has increased capacity in the plant's 23-year history. The previous three expansions, the addition of potlines 4, 5 and 6, and three boosters, were all designed, installed and commissioned by ABB.
In the two previous expansions, Dubal invested more than $120 million in technology directly related to reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency. The complex includes a 1,400 megawatt power generation plant and a desalination plant that can produce 30 million gallons of potable water a day. — (menareport.com)
