The number of mobile phone operting companies has reached 29 in 19 Arab countries, and the number of subscribers reached by 46 million, reflecting some 3% of mobile phone subscribers in the world, Head of the Arab Group for GSM Operators, Eng. Mohamed Abdulaziz Al Ageel said on Tuesday.
Al-Aqeel, speaking at the 29th Conference of Arab Mobile Phones Opertaing Companies in Damascus, added that the communication sector in the Arab world has increasingly witnessed progress during the last years.
According to SANA, Deputy Director of Syrian Communication Establishment, Nazem Bahsas, for his part, said the Conference is considered an important opportunity to deepen dialogue and propose ideas and conceptions to enhance communications among Arab countries.
The 29th Conference, organized by Syrian Ministry of Communications in cooperation with SYRIATEL, opened deliberations at Le Meridian Hotel in Damascus.
The conference is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience and to get information about developments in the GSM field in the Arab world. It is an arena for discussions, namely about Generation 3 mobile technologies, their applications and potential for growth in the Middle East.
Taking part in the conference will be over 100 representatives from all the Arab GSM Operators and leading international communications specialists including solution and service providers.
