Algeria’s ministry of energy and mines is reporting that 20 international oil producers are interested in six exploration blocks being put up for tender and meet the criteria established by the government. Final bids have to be in by February 14.

Among these companies are Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Amerada Hess Corp., Burlington Resources Inc., British Petroleum PLC, BHP Petroleum Ltd., TotalFinaElf SA, Spain's Repsol-YPF SA, Malaysian Petronas, ExxonMobil Corp., Marathon Oil Co., Royal Dutch/Shell Group, Russia's TransGaz and Kuwait's KUFPEC. For ExxonMobil Corp., Marathon Oil Co., Royal Dutch/Shell Group, TransGaz and KUFPEC, this would be their first involvement in Algeria’s oil sector.

One of the blocks in question is located in the Salah region in the south of the country. Four of the blocks are located in the Berkine basin in the southeast.

The sixth block, which has not been accurately identified, is said to be located in northeastern Algeria. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
