A $188.5 million shipbuilding facility is to be constructed in Iran, Iran Shipping Company (ISC)’s Managing Director Ali Ashraf Afkhami told the official news agency IRNA. The shipyard is planned to manufacture large container vessels. Iran’s Shipping Construction Complex and Iran Offshore Industries will co-manufacture the using a $62 million loan secured from the Foreign Exchange Surplus Fund.
Iran’s Sahel Shipping company and Germany’s Thyssen Nordseewerke (TNSW) agreed in April to establish another joint marine engineering venture in Iran. The two companies also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) providing for technological cooperation in the design and construction ships of up to 75,000 tons. — (menareport.com)
