A total of 61,413 visitors arrived in Lebanon during the month of May 2002. This constitutes a 14.9 percent increase from the previous month of April, when tourist arrivals stood at 53,452. On an annual basis, 7.3 percent more visitors entered the country in May 2001 as compared to the corresponding month the previous year, according to recent figures released by the Ministry of Tourism.

Between January and May of the current year, 276,173 tourists visited Lebanon, up 2.9 percent as compared to the first-five months of 2001. Once considered the Paris of the East, Lebanon fell off the tourist map when it disintegrated into civil war in 1975. In recent years, foreign visitors are finding their way to back into the country. — (menareport.com)
