The director of the Jordanian Environmental Protection Association, Ghazi Al-Awadat, recently revealed that the association had planted 1,200 forest trees at the Sawwaqah waste-dumping site.
According to Al-Dustour newspaper, the association is planning to decorate this site with green trees. In addition, it aims to restrict the area allocated for waste dumping by building a fence of trees around the site. The Jordanian official asserted that Jordan has no sites for dumping toxic wastes.
Al-Awadat asserted that the corporation would meet during the period of January 13-14 in order to assess a regional joint environmental database project proposal in cooperation with Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian Authority.
The price tag on such a project was estimated by Al-Awdat at €4 million, which will be funded by Germany and the European Commission. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
