Ukrainian woman Galina Kolotnitskaya who worked for the past nine years as Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's nurse has returned home. An Ukrainian newspaper quoted her daughter, Tatiana Kolotnitskaya, who lives in a suburb of Kiev as saying: "My mother came yesterday." The nurse spoken with her daughter about the situation now in Tripoli, saying "there are shootouts, and firefights everywhere."
Kolotnitskaya was Gaddafi's favorite. "There have been a number of Ukrainian nurses working for Gaddafi. Mom is one of them. For some reason he does not trust Libyan nurses," added the daughter.
Late last year, a U.S. diplomatic cable said "Gaddafi goes nowhere without his main nurse Kolotnitskaya."
Against the backdrop of the events taking place in Libya, the Ukrainian authorities have acted to evacuate their nationals from Libya. It is noteworthy that the number of Ukrainian citizens in Libya is put at around 3000 people, who mostly work in the healthcare sector. Despite the circumstances in Libya, some of them refused to return to their home because of they did not receive their recent salaries.
