Bahrain Polytechnic supports the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Bahrain Polytechnic, the Kingdom’s leading professional and vocational tertiary education institution, recently held an event in support of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The event was part of Bahrain Polytechnic’s partnership with the United Nations’ International Year of Youth initiative which aims to raise awareness about significant global issues. 

The Bahrain Polytechnic hosted guest speaker Saba Al Asfoor from the Be-Free Centre, an award-winning anti-abuse centre that provides practical help and guidance for victims of violence in Bahrain. Al Asfoor delivered a presentation on the meaning of the International Day for the Elmination of Violence Against Women with the aim of educating students on highly important topics that enhance their social and cultural awareness and sensitivity. 

Lin Ayo, Director of Student Services at the Bahrain Polytechnic commented, "Supporting the United Nations and their global initiatives such as the Elimination of Violence Against Women is an ideal platform towards student development through positive community participation for the betterment of the Kingdom as a whole.” 

In the end, students were tasked with producing a report outlining what they had learned as part of the initiative with special emphasis on the negative impact of verbal abuse. 

Youth organizations, governments, and civil society are encouraged to celebrate IYY by holding activities to showcase youth contributions to development, promote mutual understanding, and highlight the benefits and significance of youth participation in all aspects of society.
