AlHosn University discusses teaching competencies for students majoring in Arabic and Islamic education

High-ranking officials joined the region’s university registrars and admissions officers in discussing the use of electronic links to enhance Pan-Arab university collaboration today, Tuesday, April 5, during the second day of the 31^st Conference of the Arab Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ARAB-ACRAO) running until April 7, 2011 at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi. The conference is being organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. 

The second day’s proceedings commenced with a session on mechanisms of shortening distances between universities, which was chaired by Dr. Ibrahim Saidawi. This session saw presentations by Dr. Gamal Ibrahim, Al Quds Open University, Palestine; Khaled Abdul-Wahab Hilal Hamayda, Zarqa University, Jordan; Prof. Fathi Osman Abu Naja, Associate Dean, Ahmed Magdy Hegazy, October 6 University, Egypt; and Dr. Eng. Nihad A. S. Aljuboori and Jamal Makki Alsultan, Bahrain. The second session, which was chaired by Dr. Turkey Al Ottaibi, featured research presentations by Ahmed Abdel-Meguid Matar al-Mabhouh, Al Aqsa University, Palestine; Dr. Fatin Dhaif and Dr. Mansoor Al Aali, Ahlia University, Bahrain; Ali Hamdan Abu Burhom, Applied Sciences University, Bahrain; and Ehab Yakout, Saad Mesbah, Essam Kosba, and Mahmoud Farouk, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Egypt. 

The final session on day two revolved around scientific competencies that university students should possess. It began with a research paper by Dr Mohamed Mahmoud Moussa and Dr. Mohamed Saeed Hasab El Naby, ALHOSN University, on teaching competencies for students majoring in Arabic and Islamic education. This was followed by talks from Awatef Mustafa Abdel-Halim, Ahfad University for Women, Sudan; Dr. Ahed Khouzam, Albaath University, Syria; and Dr. Aisha Yakan, Al Jinan University, Lebanon. 

“Technology is vital to the growth of the region’s educational systems and was in fact the key topic in last year’s conference in Lebanon. This time around we specifically focused on the use of technology to maintain links and uphold standards across the region’s universities.  We also conversed about other major issues, such as teaching competencies and admissions practices to round off another productive day at the region’s premier collegiate registration and admission forum,” said Dr Mohamed Saeed El Naby, Chair of Education Department, ALHOSN University.

Researchers from 30 Arab universities have gathered at the 2011 ARAB-ACRAO conference to confer on key issues, trends and practices affecting enrollment and registration across the region’s higher education institutions in keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Enrollment and Registration: Quality and Accreditation Standards.’ 

ARAB-ACRAO is a professional, educational and volunteer non-profit organization that advocates high acceptance and registration standards across the Arab Region’s universities. Its Annual Meeting has become a vital forum for sharing and exchanging expertise on the region’s educational systems. Last year’s meeting was held in Lebanon under the theme ‘The Challenges of Admission and Registration under Technological Development.’
