42 Exceptional Female Students of GEMS School Accept Sheikha Fatima Award From His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan
The Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Awards for Excellence were presented by His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance to 42 girls from GEMS Education schools across the UAE. Launched by GEMS Education in 2005, the high profile annual awards ceremony was held at GEMS Dubai American Academy.
Held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance, to honour the Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, wife of the late Founding President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, for her contributions to the empowerment of women in the UAE and her support for excellence in all areas.

The Prestigious Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Al Nahyan Award for Excellence is awarded to female students from GEMS schools in the UAE for their outstanding academic performance, leadership skills and their significant contribution to social, environmental and global citizenship.
During the ceremony, His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan launched Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Al Nahyan Award for Excellence Book, launched for the first time by GEMS Education to tell the story of the award by highlighting all winner’s achievements and the role models who inspired them in their journey of success. The Books were gifted to this year’s winners to encourage them to carry forward with their meaningful goals and causes in life.
The winning female students were nominated by their schools for their outstanding academic success, commitment to social responsibility and global citizenship. The award winners from the UAE receive a scholarship to cover a year's tuition fee at their respective school.

In 1959, two teachers, KS Varkey and his wife Mariamma, arrived in Dubai.
