As part of its ongoing Community Connections program, Starbucks Jordan recently organized a community initiative to repaint the walls and sidewalks in the neighborhood surrounding its store in Deir Ghbar.

The neighborhood’s residents warmly welcomed the community initiative, which brought together Starbucks’ partners (employees) and volunteering customers to make a difference in the neighborhood. This is the second initiative organized by Starbucks to showcase its commitment to the local community, following its recent cleanup campaign that targeted the 7th Circle neighborhood surrounding its store.

The Community Connections program is part of Starbucks’ continued efforts to deliver lasting positive changes to the communities in which it operates. The program, which aims to promote the spirit of volunteerism and encourage young men and women to create positive change in their communities, was developed over the past three years across nine markets in the Middle East. To date, Starbucks partners and volunteers have completed more than 170 projects totaling over 10,200 community service hours.

“We are pleased that this campaign has encouraged the participation of our fellow citizens and the cooperation of our official representatives,” commented Rana Shaheen, Regional Communications & CSR Manager at Starbucks. “This demonstrates the success met by the Community Connections program in Jordan and the potential long-term positive changes it can have on the local community. This impression is further reinforced by the fact that our volunteer network is continually expanding, which enhances the natural desire people have to be a part of the change process.”

As part of its Shared Planet initiative, which involves a number of global CSR projects, Starbucks has set out to complete an accumulated one million hours of community service by the year 2015.
