Actor Abeer Sabri announced that she had taken off her hijab (Islamic female headdress), because she could not live up to the responsibility it demands.
“When I took off my hijab I was able to stand up for myself,” said Abeer, adding that wearing a hijab and then not was a “most unusual experience.”
She encountered difficulties getting roles in television and films while wearing a hijab, said Abeer, which influenced her decision.
According to the London based Elaph, Abeer said that she will never work with producer Ahmad Al Sabki again after the dispute that erupted between them over the editing of most of her scenes from the film “Nour Ayni” (The light of my eyes). The film was screened last month and Abeer has described it as the biggest mistake of her career.
