New signing Nico González has revealed that his £50 million transfer to Manchester City was more than just a career move, it was the realization of his father's long-held dream. His father, a former City U18 coach, had always hoped to see his son wear the club’s colors.
González, who arrived from FC Porto on deadline day, was part of City's £180 million January spending spree, which also saw the signings of Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis.
A Dream Come True in Manchester
Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, González shared:
"My father was here for two years, and that’s why he always recommended that if I ever got the chance, I should come to City."
He added:
"He always spoke so highly of Manchester, both the city and the club. He told me I would love it here and be very happy. He enjoyed living here, and when I visited, I really liked it too."
On his father’s impression of the club, González said:
"The first thing he told me about City was that the atmosphere is incredible, and the people are amazing. He always believed joining this club would be the best decision. Even years ago, he used to say he wished I could play here. Now, he's so happy, and I’m proud to make it happen."
By joining Manchester City, González is not only pursuing his own ambitions but also fulfilling a family dream—a move he hopes will mark the beginning of a successful journey at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
