Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has urged his team to leave behind their FA Cup disappointment and shift their full focus toward the Europa League campaign.
United bowed out of the FA Cup after a penalty shootout defeat against Fulham, despite dominating large parts of the match.
After the game, Fernandes said: "I think we controlled the game. The goal we conceded came from a situation we discussed during the week, and we should have been more aware. But overall, we played well, especially in the second half, where we created more chances."
He added: "In extra time, Fulham had a bit more control, but we had the better opportunities to score. Unfortunately, they were more clinical in the penalties."
Fighting Spirit Still Intact
When asked about the team's spirit, Fernandes emphasized that the squad's mentality remains strong, even if results haven't always gone their way.
"The fighting spirit is always there. Sometimes you score, and sometimes you don't. Against Ipswich, it was enough. Against Everton, it wasn't. Today, it helped us reach extra time, but in the end, penalties decided the game."
Despite the setback, the Portuguese star insisted that the team must keep pushing in the remaining competitions.
Eyes on Europa League
With a crucial Europa League round of 16 tie against Real Sociedad on the horizon, Fernandes highlighted the importance of recovery and preparation as the squad battles through a busy schedule and ongoing injury problems.
"We've had many injuries, and the same players have been playing consistently for long spells. Now, we need to recover and refresh ourselves for the next matches."
Fernandes also praised Real Sociedad's style of play, saying: "They are a Spanish team that plays brilliant football, with quality players in attack and a solid build-up from the back. They will make us run, but we have to make them run too when we have the ball."
As United’s European journey continues, the captain's message is clear: stay focused, stay united, and fight for what's left of the season.
