Chelsea top management has demanded that interim manager Rafael Benitez seals a top-four finish for the club in the Premier League or risk losing his post.

According to Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay, it was the plan of the club to have Benitez in the position of an interim manager with the aim of a Champions League position at the end of the season, the Sun reports.

Gourlay said that although they can still win the Europa League and the FA Cup, the priority of the club lies with a Champions League spot, adding that it is necessary for Benitez to help the club secure if not a win, then at least a position in the top four in the Premier League.

Although Gourlay refused to say whether the club will extend the contract of Frank Lampard, who has just three months left on his deal, he said that the club is planning to sign two or three new players in the summer even though they have yet to identify who their manager will be. (ANI)
