Barcelona is set to face Valencia at the "Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys" tonight in a crucial La Liga clash, hoping to get back to winning ways.
However, the Catalan giants could be without their star midfielder, Pedri, as reports from Mundo Deportivo indicate that the player is suffering from an unexpected illness.
Pedri Set to Miss Barcelona’s Crucial Clash with Valencia Due to Illness
Pedri, who has been in excellent form recently, played a key role in Barcelona's comeback win over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League. Despite the coach's preference for Pedri to maintain a consistent role in the lineup without rotation, his illness, which includes symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting, may prevent him from playing in today's match.
Carlos Monfort from Jijantes FC further reported that Pedri went to the Ciutat Esportiva today for tests but left after just half an hour. He did not board the team bus to the hotel.
This comes as a significant blow for Barcelona, who are already facing challenges, sitting 10 points behind league leaders Real Madrid. The team is also without playmaker Dani Olmo due to injury, adding to the difficulties.
With Pedri's absence, coach Hansi Flick is likely to rely on Frenkie de Jong in midfield alongside Marc Casado, following a solid performance against Benfica. Other midfield options include Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Pablo Torre, allowing the coach flexibility in adjusting the midfield for the Valencia match.
