Organised by the Ajman Tourism Development Department and held under the patronage of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of ATDD, the fourth annual cycling event of the emirate was an outstanding success with over 500 cyclists taking part, a press release said.
Starting and finishing on Al Zorah, Marina 1 cyclists took on either 115km route or took part in the 58km race. Cyclists were cheered on by friends, family and Ajman residents as they were heading to Al Tallah Camel Racecourse before making their way through the centre of Ajman. With over Dhs 30,000 in cash to be won the competition was fierce.
Gusev Vladimir won the male 19-49 category in the open 115km race and Samah Khaled won the female 19-49 category.
The junior title was awarded to Alexander Sherwin.
Malcom Smith won the senior male category and Dee Boys won the senior female category. All winners took home a staggering Dhs 3,000 each in prize money and further prizes were awarded for second and third place in the same categories.
Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, ATDD director general, said: "This morning's event was another great success. Now in its fourth year, Ride Ajman is a key event in the ATDD calendar and we're delighted to showcase beautiful Ajman to so many cyclists and visitors from across the UAE. We're looking forward to welcoming everyone back again next year."
Francis Desjardins, general manager of Fairmont Ajman, said: "We are very pleased to see Ajman vibrant with energy this morning with the participation of many athletes and cyclists. We will continue our journey to promote the emirate as a sports and fitness destination and will always be at the forefront of these significant initiatives."
